Aluminium podotactile stud

For many years now, La Frappe Ardennaise has been a leader in the production and supply of tactile studs and studs. Tactile studs and studs, used to create warning strips, serve to alert visually impaired or blind people to the presence of a nearby hazard, making it easier for them to get around. Used both indoors and outdoors, these warning strips and their components must comply with current legislation.

What does the legislation say?

Pursuant to Appendix 7 of the decree of 8 December 2014, amended by Article 18 of the decree of 28 April 2017, the following provisions apply:

“The purpose of a tactile warning strip is to alert visually impaired persons through tactile and visual detection.”

They may be installed in the exterior areas of establishments open to the public and in facilities open to the public.

A tactile warning strip has the following characteristics:

  • it consists of evenly spaced studs;
  • it is wide enough to be detected by a white cane and cannot be stepped over by pedestrians;
  • it contrasts visually with its immediate surroundings;
  • it is non-slip;
  • it does not cause any discomfort to people with mobility difficulties;
  • it is placed at a distance from the danger zone corresponding to the braking distance.

The NF P 398-51 standard regulates warning strips, of which tactile studs and studs are an integral part once installed.

Dimensions, materials and colours

The tactile studs and dots, which have a diameter of 25 mm, are distinguished by the stud’s shaft, which measures 10 mm in diameter and can be adjusted in length according to your needs or installation constraints.

We also offer a variety of materials, such as 316Cu stainless steel, which has excellent resistance to road salt, atmospheric pollution and marine environments, as well as 304Cu stainless steel, steel, brass, copper and aluminium.

In addition, we can carry out surface treatment according to your specifications.

Depending on your requirements, we manufacture the nail shank with or without threading.

We take an innovative approach to design, offering you a variety of head models for an optimised design.

Expansion of our range

With a view to continuous development and in response to growing demand for this type of tactile paving, we are currently looking into the possibility of producing aluminium paving blocks.

This range of tactile paving will be available in a wide variety of colours.

We will keep you informed of our progress on this project.
